ABIDE in HIS WORD

1) ABIDE IN
luence of  Jesus.  We do nothing without consulting Jesus nor do we desire to walk away from Him.  It is like the Husband and the Wife who are in constant communication and do not make decisions without first considering the other.  It means there is perfect unity and nothing is allowed to disturb, disrupt, hinder, or break that unity.  This is what Jesus requires of those who believe in Him.

2) HIS WORD
Why is the word "word" singular and not plural? Jesus is speaking of the sum total of His Words.  Jesus is Himself the Word of God made flesh.
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God.

14And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1-2,14 ESV
 Everything that God needed to say, needed to reveal to us, needed to tell us, etc., is all wrapped up in Jesus and Jesus tells us to have unbroken fellowship with His Word. It is through His Word we come to understand the character and nature of God, we come to understand our need to be transformed, we learn how to live for Jesus, we learn what pleases Him.  Look at what some of the scriptures say about God's Word;

11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 ESV

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 ESV

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 ESV

  If God puts so much value on His Word, should we not also do the same? His has a high value for His Word and He renders it so important that it became flesh to swell among us.  And Jesus tells us to abide in it.  He Tells us also if we love Him we will keep His Word.

10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
John 15:10 ESV

I cannot stress the importance of this, so it leaves the question of "How do we abide in His Word?" Simple it means;

  1. Never ceasing to consult His Word
  2. Never ceasing to trust  His Word
  3. Never ceasing to under the constant persuasion of His Word
  4. Never ceasing to believe in the power of His Word
  5. Never ceasing to be under the influence of His Word
  6. Never ceasing to make time for read His Word
  7. Never ceasing to grow in the knowledge and understanding Jesus through His Word
  8. Never ceasing to obey His Word
  9. Never ceasing to live out His Word
  10. Never ceasing to value His Word

truly be HIS DISCIPLE
Now if we do these things Jesus says that we are truly His Disciples.  So the litmus test to see if we are truly following Christ is how we live our lives according to His Word.  There is no way around it, no way to escape, no way to justify why you are not living it, it all hinges on are you living according to the Word. It means we give in to Christ and fight against the pressures of sin itself.  We cling to His Word, our lives are open books that reflect Christ.  We are not just those who profess to know Jesus, believe in Jesus, or even proclaim Him, we are those who live  for Jesus.  We follow Him faithfully. So are you truly a His Disciple?
How are you living according to Word of God in your;
  1. Marriage
  2. Family
  3. Relationships
  4. At Work
  5. In what you watch
  6. In what you say
  7. In what you do
  8. In where you go
  9. In what you listen to
  10. In what you are planning to do

How does it all show that you are abiding in Christ? It's a real question for us all to consider because Jesus does not merely call us to believe only to fall away later, He calls us to believe and grow in the faith.
